It's great to be able to clean your home with a clear conscience. Baking soda, lemon, vinegar and salt are real heroes not only when cooking but also when cleaning your home. It's also non-toxic, cheap and usually already at home.
– Baking soda works just as well on baked-on food residue on plates and cutlery as it does for refreshing dishcloths by soaking them for a while in baking soda mixed with a little lukewarm water.
– Baking soda works great for cleaning the inside of the oven. Make a paste of baking soda, water and salt to rub in. Leave it overnight and clean with a washing brush.
– Do you have a stovetop with ingrained food stains? Wet the stovetop with water and sprinkle baking soda over it. Let it work for a while and then wipe with a soft sponge.
– Vinegar works great for cleaning the refrigerator and removing bad odors. Fill a spray bottle with a mixture of vinegar and water and spray the refrigerator. Wipe clean after about half an hour.
– Squeezed lemon juice into a cup of water will dissolve food residue (and also remove bad odors) when you microwave on full power for one to two minutes. Then wipe with a damp cloth.
– Limescale deposits on the sink can be easily removed by rubbing with half a lemon. Wipe with a cloth afterwards.
– Vinegar and salt work well to clean stale cutting boards. Scrub with a little lukewarm water and the bacteria will have a tough time.
– Burnt pots can be cleaned again by boiling water in the pot with a few spoons of baking soda.
