One research report after another shows how the reward systems in our brains kick into action as soon as we have our beloved phone in our vicinity. A little sneak peek, maybe a little like on the latest post, the feel-good hormones are singing in the body. I have slowly but surely started to prepare for the summer vacation that is approaching. In my mind lives a desire to be less connected. There have been active choices that have meant that I have left my phone in airplane mode when I have a meeting or when I am busy. I have wanted to have full focus on those I am talking to and not be disturbed by buzzing ticklers from the phone. Maybe it is my will that this is the right thing that makes me feel that I have had closer meetings, wonderful interactions, more honest conversations - or it is so simple that I relax subconsciously when I am not as accessible to the attention of social media.
Now I will not in any way make myself unavailable or stop updating myself on social media, I think in short it is about finding a nice balance between being here and now in place and present now and then in the noise. For me, it is enough to leave my mobile phone on the hall furniture when I get home and every time I want to take a peek, I have to actively reach for the phone, not have the phone glued to my hand wherever I go.
