If I look at my newly purchased face cream and imagine a film that is played backwards to the smallest ingredient, it becomes a fairly long clip. The question that then arises is who/who have I benefited with my money? That is precisely the question that more and more people are asking themselves and starting to shop more consciously, and I am also questioning it. Because if I play the film forwards, I realise that my purchase does not end with me. It should be consumed but not disappear, it continues to exist but in different forms. Through my body and into the sewers. Through an empty package that will become garbage. Through a receipt I received in the store, which in turn sends the signal for "more of this" to the manufacturer.
A single purchase can send so many incredible signals and support so many different companies. The question is what it means in the long run. Is it a company that takes people and the environment into account or not? For me, it has become so important precisely for that reason to know who is behind the things I buy. I remember a children's program where the main characters chanted "nothing disappears, everything remains". That's exactly what it is, it just goes around and around. The cream I bought yesterday comes back to me after I use it, but in other forms... as microscopic parts in the food, in the fish, in the air, in the vegetables... somewhere it goes and reaches us again. An eternal circle, a cycle.
For this very reason, about 7 years ago I stopped consuming skin care that is not natural and organic. Because I know that it will pass through my body and then out into nature to come back to me in a different form. Also because I want to support the production of really good skin care that does not burden health or the environment as much as conventional ones. The signals we send are strong and many.
In this corner of Care Of Gerds Magazine I will send out my signals and continue to support Swedish-made natural/organic skincare of very high quality. :) Iván ValenciaPsst... We want to recommend natural deodorant, organic face cream , organic serum and more from Care Of Gerd!
